Piedmonts and OrchardsThe Haute Combe de Savoie separates the Bauges mountain range from the Grand Arc, stretching from Albertville to the foot of a pass, the Col de Tamié. It forms part of a majestic glacial valley, shaped by the powerful glacier of the Isère. On the right bank, under the impressive limestone cliffs of the Bauges, the well-exposed slopes have a very southern feel, and climate. Here, the orchards of the Apples and Pears of Savoie IGP (IGP is a geographical origin label) have structured the pleasant landscape around villages and hamlets that have kept their traditional appearance. Below the coppices and forests of beech and fir-trees, the high pastures have shaped the mountain. In the background, the Mont Blanc range adds a certain grandeur to this piedmont region.
